Big Day April 30

As you can see from the earlier post, we have the our big volunteer event, 7:30AM, Saturday morning, April 30th. Everyone is required to show up and help out for the KaBOOM playground event, especially if you have not paid your dues! Free food and drinks, must be present to win.

Afterwards, we are scheduled to play Coppell in a game of 10s or possibly 7s. This is a demonstration event to recruit new players for the summer 7s series. Please bring out friends and family, to assist in the playground build and give rugby a shot. This is an unofficial, non-CIPP event and is not associated with TYRA in anyway, thus your dues will not have to be paid to participate.

Mavericks vs Plano Saturday 3/26 Noon

The Mavericks are slated to take on Plano Varsity for a Noon kickoff. Be at the pitch dressed and ready to play by 10:30AM.

The pitch is at the Las Colinas Polo Club at 600 E. Royal Lane, Irving TX. This is the same place we played the 7s tournament over the summer. If coming from Luna Rd, you'll have to make a U-turn just over the bridge and come back, then turn right into the polo center.

Pay your dues.

T-Shirt Fundraiser to Pay CIPP Dues

We have sharp attractive t-shirts for sale to help those who need to raise money for their CIPP dues. The details on how to pay your dues is on the Registration/Dues link on the right menu. Basically you pay $20 to USA Rugby and $35 to Texas or TYRA. I can't tell you what this money goes to, I don't know. I do know that from here on out, no other team will play a non-CIPPed team. I also know that the Maverick Men support and pay for all our administrative, field, tournament and associated costs. Next time you see a dues paying Maverick, thank him. The deal on the shirts works like this. You sell a T-shirt for $15. You pay Mr. Kelly $5 for the cost of the shirt. You put the other $10 towards your dues. If you sell 6 shirts, your dues are paid. Use this money to reimburse your parents/sponsor who used their credit card to pay your dues. You can call, text, or email Mr. Kelly to place your orders. He will bring whatever stock is left on hand to practice. We can easily order more if needed. Sizes are the standard small, medium, large and extra large.

Mavs Invited to Jesuit Tournament March 12

The Mavericks have been invited to combine with Alliance JV to enter a team in the exclusive Jesuit Dallas Showdown Saturday, March 12 with the finals on Sunday March 13. There will be teams from across the Nation.

The only stipulation for us to play is that we MUST be CIPPed! Follow the instructions on the Registration/Dues link on the menu.

Players should be at Jesuit at 8:30AM, Saturday, March 12, looking for Coach Neuby from Alliance. He happens to be the head coach for the North Texas Rattlers All-Star team too.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play teams from outside of Texas and see their different styles and talent levels as well as showcase your own.

Click the download link below for the tournament schedule. If you have any questions about dues or the tournament, contact Mr. Kelly.

Rugby Info - Practice, Schedule, etc.

With the new year upon us it's time to get our season started in earnest. With the addition of the Midlothian kids as well as the former Canterbury kids who now go to Bishop Dunne getting everyone together to practice will be a bit of a challenge at times but me and Mr. Kelly have a few ideas to help with that.

As in the past the youth will share the field for no cost at Mike Lewis Park in Grand Prairie to practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. There will also be practices on Wednesday's after school from 4:30PM to Dark on the open field on the West side Don Floyd Stadium across the street from Midlothian HS.

The Men resume practice in Grand Prairie on January 4th and the Midlothian practices will start up again on January 5th. We understand with the logistics getting everyone together on a regular basis can be tough so we have scheduled a few Saturday's to get everyone together to practice and get to know each other.

Currently have two scheduled for January 15th and January 29th at 11:00AM at our match pitch, Prairie Park in Grand Prairie. After the Jan 15th practice we'll head a few miles west down Main Street to New York Joe's Pizza and following the 29th practice we'll cook out at the field and the boys can stick around if they want to watch the Men's match against Denton at 2:00PM.

As far as combined practices we'll look to have a few other Saturday's or get to match's a bit early to have mini practices like we did when we combined with Allen who was thin on numbers as well.

There are two available the month of January. One is a two day camp at OU in Norman, OK and the other is in Farmers Branch and will be run be former New Zealand All Black, Scott "Razor" Robertson. Flyers for both are attached.
OU Rugby Camp Press Release
USA Rugby Minor Waiver

Cost is $75 which covers required registration with USA Rugby (a.k.a. CIPP) and Rugby Texas which is $55. Most youth programs in the DFW area charge between $200 and $300 a season but we are fortunate to have the Men cover the field cost which enables us to keep our cost low. Everyone will need to be CIPP'd prior to the first match. More details to follow.

Mr. Kelly has gotten the schedule finalized and which is included below along with the combined practice dates and camps. If you have any questions please let me know and feel free to pass this along to anyone else you know that wants to play as well as your parents.

Look forward to seeing you all next week.

Mavs to Play at Gateway Park 2nd Week in a Row

After a great practice with educational drills followed by a scrimmage, the Mavericks will be heading back to Fort Worth's Gateway Park for another session this Saturday 11/6.

Players are asked to be there by 8:30AM, with their mouthpieces this time! Also wear shorts with a draw string that prevents them from being pulled down - PLEASE! And a tough shirt or jersey that can handle all the binding, stretching and withstand tearing.

Pay your CIPP dues as outlined in last weeks note.

Cookout will follow. You may want to bring your own water! We ran out last week.

If you have a question, leave a comment on the web site for this posting.

Games Start at 9AM 10/30 in Frisco

The 7s will start right after the captains meeting at 9:00AM Saturday morning, October 30. Please be there at 8:30AM dressed and ready to play so we can run over some basic tactics, rules and safety. We will provide the jerseys, you will need to bring your own mouthguard, shorts with a tie string as people will tackle you by your shorts (no bare asses, please), and soccer style cleats with no toe cleat.

The field is not far off of the Dallas North tollway at the Frisco Griffins practice field. Here's the map: You will have to take toll roads to get there. If you do not have a toll tag, they will send you a bill in the mail. Pay it. Otherwise they tack on outrageous late fees.

We are scheduled to play 3 games of 14 minute 7 a side rugby.

The tournament administrators have stated that all players must be CIPPed to participate. Please see the information on the Registration/Dues section of our web site. This must be done by Friday evening. If you wish Mr. Kelly to register you, bring $55 to practice on Thursday. He will need your full name, address, birthday, phone numbers and email address, already written on a separate piece of paper, plus the $55 cash or check.

Post any questions on the web site as a comment.

Fall 7s Series is ON!

The Fall 7s Series is on and we will be putting in teams for the tournaments. Midlothian has a crew of about 10 very good athletes just itching to play. The current part time Maverick ruggers can fill in the gaps with experience and skill to put out an extremely competitive team.

If you are new or are from Midlothian, here's what you need to do. First sign up to email notifications on the web site. There's a "Subscribe" box on the right hand side. Put in your email address.

Next, get CIPP'ed. That is, register with USA Rugby. This will last you through the Spring and Summer seasons. There are instructions under the "Dues/Registration" menu link, on the top right hand side of the site. For ease of paperwork, register under the HS (U19) and Grand Prairie Mavericks High School – RFC (Club). We get none of this money, it all goes to some other governing entities.

After that, show up to the men's practice on Tuesday and Thursdays. If we have enough dudes, we'll hold a separate youth practice. We'll still run some drills with the men though. Good stuff there.

This weekend there will be a tournament in Frisco. Allen will have 2 or 3 teams and Plano will have 2 teams. If you show up you can play with one of those teams. Otherwise, we are shooting for next Saturday 10/23.

Tentative Schedule

  • Oct 16 – First weekend of "real" games. Frisco
  • Oct 23 – Jesuit probably won't play because of Homecoming
  • Oct 30 – San Antonio tourney. Participation optional. Teams that do not travel might play here.
  • 11/6 - Play at LCPC?
  • 11/13 - Play at LCPC?
  • 11/20 - Venue TBD
  • 11/27 – Nothing because of Thanksgiving
  • 12/4 – Allen wants to host a Tourney

For Those Who Have Not Paid Their Dues

If you have not yet CIPPed yourself with USA Rugby, the structure has changed. As of this week, the total initial dues to be paid online to USA Rugby has increased to $55. USA Rugby has started charging the Texas Rugby dues (SBRO) up front. Originally, the team paid this out of your club dues and you would only have to pay $20 to USA Rugby. Now you must pay the $55 up front.

Following the directions on the Registration/Dues page, you will be charged the initial $55. Your remaining club dues are now reduced to $45. $55 + $45 = $100 total dues. You can write a check for $45 to Maverick Rugby or bring cash to one of the team officers (adults). CIPP yourself first.

This does not affect those who have paid their dues already.

Game Time and Field Change - 11:00 @ Home

The game against Plano on Saturday 2/13/2010 has been changed to start at 11:00 AM in Grand Prairie, due to Plano field conditions and referee availability.

Players, please show up to the field at 10:00 AM.

No practice tonight, Thursday 2/11/2010, the practice fields are closed due to the abundance of snow.

Again, please ensure that you have CIPPed yourself (registered and paid your USA Rugby dues) following the directions on this site. This must be done in order to play Saturday.
