Playing 7s this Fall?

TYRA, the Texas Youth Rugby Association is putting together a Fall 7s series. This will be similar to the summer series in which we did so well. The Grand Prairie Mavericks are gauging interest and we want your opinion. If you are interested and want to play 7s this fall please fill out the poll on the right hand side of the web site. You may leave comments on this posting as well.

A BALL 4 ALL

The United States Rugby Football Foundation has provided rugby balls to over 500 teams and schools in the past six years. Now we are looking to help the individual player by providing a rugby ball to each of the 30,000 youth and high school players that are playing the game in the US. And we are going to try to accomplish that without asking for any money from anyone. All we are asking from you is your daily VOTE in September. If we are fortunate enough to win the $250,000, every cent of that award will be used towards the purchase of 30,000 rugby balls. You can also Text* 102647 to Pepsi (73774). *Standard text messaging rates apply.

Pool Party Makes Big Splash

Literally. The Mavericks enjoyed the Airhogs baseball-side pool party in center field. The weather was perfect and the food was plentiful. All last year's high school players in attendance received a free Maverick Rugby t-shirt. The big splashes came during the belly flop contest when Mr. Kurylas and "The Coog" rocked water out of the pool and into the outfield, tsunami style. Mr. Flowers was "styling" in his fabulous birthday attire. A fun time was had by all.

Airhogs Baseball Pool Party

Just a reminder about the poolside baseball party this weekend! Check the site for details - it's still $25 a head for all you can eat. You MUST RSVP! That means you must let us know that you are coming so that we may hold your tickets at the gate. Let all the Allen & Plano guys know that their presence is requested. If you have numbers, call and text them. It's a family affair so bring siblings (brothers & sisters) as well as friends that may be interested in playing. Let us know as soon as possible by calling/texting/emailing Mr. Kurylas.

Oh yeah! We have t-shirts on order, so all youth players get a free t-shirt, no matter on which team they played.

Mavericks Beat the Heat at Mudfish

Four of the Maverick Youth Ruggers assisted the men's team in the absolutely hottest tournament of the year. James Kelly, Chris Kelly, Mike "Ginger" Hanawacker and Lorenzo Marconi stepped up in 103 degree oppressively humid weather and played against mens' teams. Ginger scored in our only victory over DARC. We lost a close one to MSU and then, after a hard fought battle, to the Reds. Everyone played well in the blazing sun but could tell that fitness had fallen after a month's break.

The Reds went on to play the Tongan Nation, a.k.a. the Euless Islanders, in the final. Euless went on to win both the Mudfish and Minnow division. They had at least 60 players suited up and looked very impressive, especially with some of our former Mavericks leading the team.

Next on the agenda is the AirHogs baseball pool party 8/28. Check the web site for details. This party is open to the our Allen teammates as well as any friends from other teams you wish to invite (and have $25).
